Seo In Guk explores Boracay

Actor visits island destination, tries local cuisine as part of tourism campaign

South Korean actor and singer Seo In Guk visited Boracay after being named the Philippines’ new celebrity tourism ambassador. During his trip, he explored the island’s attractions and sampled local cuisine.

Seo, who recently signed a one-year agreement with the Department of Tourism (DOT) arrived in Boracay two weekends ago for his first visit to the island. He was seen walking along the white sand beaches of Station 1, taking a yacht tour at sunset, and trying crystal kayaking, a popular activity in the area. He also played golf at Fairways and Bluewater Boracay and dined at Shangri-La Boracay, where he was served elevated Filipino cuisine.

The South Korean star also experienced local flavors, trying sisig and sinigang, two of the country’s most well-known dishes. He interacted with fans during his visit, which is part of his role in promoting the Philippines as a travel destination to the South Korean market and his global audience.

Seo’s appointment as the Philippines’ tourism ambassador was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco on Feb. 21, with Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles and Neocolors Production and Advertising Inc. President and CEO Dr. Christine May Daguno-Canoy present as witnesses.

During the signing ceremony in Makati City, Seo expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “It is an honor for me to be a promoter for the Philippines. I feel a great responsibility, and I will share my experiences with others. Mahal ko kayo.”

Seo, who debuted as a singer in 2009 and gained fame as an actor in the 2012 drama series Reply 1997, has starred in several hit Korean shows, including Shopping King Louie and Doom at Your Service.

Frasco thanked tourism industry partners, including Philippine Airlines, Shangri-La Boracay, Shangri-La The Fort, and Fairways and Bluewater Boracay, for supporting Seo’s visit. She added that the DOT remains open to working with celebrities and influencers to promote the country’s tourism industry.

“The Department of Tourism is grateful for those who choose to work with us and share the beauty of the Philippines. Their efforts contribute to job creation, increased tourist arrivals, and economic growth for Filipinos who depend on tourism,” Frasco said.
