A night of lights, laughter, and wagging tails filled Manila as Filipino families and their pets gathered for “Pets Date Night,” an annual celebration centered on the country’s growing bond with companion animals.
Now in its fifth year, the Boehringer Ingelheim event mixed entertainment with lessons on responsible pet care. Families moved through a carnival-style setup with games, free treats, and interactive activities, while pets took part in fashion walks, live performances, and a light show.

The celebration also carried a clear message on preventive care. Free veterinary check-ups and expert advice focused on vaccinations and parasite protection, while educational talks offered practical guidance for pet owners.
Animal welfare groups Animal Kingdom Foundation and CARA Welfare Philippines partnered with the event, promoting community education, humane sheltering, and the adoption of rescued animals.
“Pets Date Night is more than a celebration. It’s a platform to champion responsible pet care and educate families,” said Dr. Michael Banawa, head of animal health at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Philippines Inc.
About 21.3 million dogs and 2.74 million cats live in Filipino households, with nearly half of families caring for at least one pet. As pet ownership grows, experts said preventive care plays a key role in protecting both animals and communities.

Dr. Ross Banayo, technical manager for companion animals at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Philippines Inc., said regular check-ups, vaccinations, and year-round parasite protection help reduce the spread of disease in homes and neighborhoods.
Crowd favorites included “pawricature” sessions and the return of Holitails Pawchella, where pets paraded in themed costumes with their owners.
Organizers said the event served as a reminder that regular veterinary visits and preventive care remain essential to keeping pets healthy year-round.
