Knowing what has happened President Marcos should not waiver in his commitment to do what he has to do.”
2025 was an acid test for everybody, mainly for people in power, because of the rampant graft and corruption committed in connection with public works projects, principally the flood control projects, some of them non-existent, Santa Banana!
The worst part is the culprits took advantage of the people’s money to enrich themselves.
Among them are contractors of infrastructure projects who were not even ashamed to display their ill gotten wealth.
For instance, we have Zaldy Co, party-list member of the House of Representatives who has since resigned and is now a fugitive of justice, the latest heard of him is that he was hiding somewhere in Portugal because he was able to acquire a Portuguese passport.
Following the cessation of the Independent Commission on Infrastructure, the President is expected to certify as urgent a commission called Independent People’s Commission, which will remain as a body always ready to go after people involved in graft and corruption.
We should expect that with the bill filed banning political dynasties, Santa Banana, this will lessen ways and means for the commission of graft and corruption.
There will also be other bills to strengthen government agencies to go after grafters and corruptors.
For example, the Department of Interior and Local Government is now involved in building classrooms which is the big problem of our country because of the constant need for more classrooms.
And with the creation of the long expected agencies we can expect less grafters and corruptors this year hopefully, Santa Banana!
The problem is with the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte by the House of Representatives it is now up to the Senate to create itself as a court to go after the Vice President.
The problem this year is with the forthcoming Senate impeachment trial this will create a very divisive year for those for or against Duterte.
As I often say, that impeachment trial is both a legal and political exercise.
We saw this when President Erap Estrada was impeached. We also saw this when the late Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was impeached.
We cannot avoid all this happening because our main problem as a nation has always been political.
With the forthcoming problems that can divide the country, Santa Banana, the economy cannot grow as we expect it to grow because of all this political and foreign investors will hesitate to come. We saw that in 2025 when we failed to meet the expected target growth rate.
I have never lost hope for the country despite all these headwinds and hurdles we have to go through.
I am now 98 years old, but I still have high hopes for this country to become a first world nation.
For as long as there is hope there is always a chance for us Filipinos to rise above ourselves, despite these hurdles and difficulties we have to go through every year.
We have seen what rampant corruption has done for us taxpayers.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should never waiver in going after grafters and the corrupt.
There is a lot of disappointment with what he is doing about the culprits and, despite our expectations. the reported arrest of the “Big Fish” has not happened.
The people hope this year will be a hopeful year,.
I myself have never given up on our country in spite of all that is happening. I have seen the worst of graft and corruption happen. I have seen the worst that graft and corruption can do to a country. I have seen the worst of what greedy people can do to frustrate the government administration officials from doing their best.
The trust rating of President BBM has gone down, not because of what he has done, but what happened with our country with all the greedy people taking advantage of their positions.
Knowing what has happened President Marcos should know what to do and should not waiver in his commitment to do what he has to do.
Where there is hope there is a chance we can do better this year and the coming years.
