PAGASA sees 3 LPAs forming, one entering PAR by May 31

Three low-pressure areas may develop over the Pacific Ocean between May 25 and May 31, with one weather disturbance possibly entering the Philippine area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday.

PAGASA said the likelihood of any of the three systems developing into a tropical depression remains low, although forecasts could still change in the coming days.

The weather bureau also warned that hot, dry, and humid conditions would continue across Luzon and the Visayas, with several areas expected to experience dangerous heat index levels this week.

PAGASA said San Ildefonso could record a peak heat index of 46 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Areas expected to experience a 44°C heat index include Aparri and Dipolog.

A heat index of 43°C was forecast for Dagupan, Tuguegarao, Roxas, Tacloban, and Davao City, among other areas.

Meanwhile, areas expected to register a 42°C heat index include Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Laoag, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban, Davao City, and General Santos.

For Wednesday, PAGASA said 40 areas nationwide were expected to experience heat index levels ranging from 42°C to 45°C, classified under the “danger” category.

San Ildefonso, Bulacan was forecast to reach 45°C, while Masbate City, Legazpi, Iloilo City, and Surigao City were among the areas expected to record heat indices between 42°C and 44°C.
