The low pressure area monitored east northeast of Batanes has developed into tropical depression “Huaning,” the state weather bureau reported early Monday morning.
As of 8:00 a.m. on August 18, no tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised as the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) tracks the new weather disturbance.
PAGASA said “Huaning” was last seen at 520 kilomaters east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It was moving north northwestward at 10 km per hour with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph.
According to its forecast, this cyclone is “unlikely to directly affect the country within the next 48 hours.” It is expected to move generally northward, approaching Ryukyu Islands in Japan.
“On the forecast track, ‘Huaning’ may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between late evening today and tomorrow morning,” PAGASA said.
