Heavy rainfall is anticipated across multiple regions today, January 1, driven by the effects of shear line and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), areas including Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte are expected to receive moderate to heavy rains throughout the day.
For January 2, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecasted for Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Aurora, and Quezon.
On Friday, Cagayan could experience particularly intense rainfall ranging from 100 to 200 mm, while Isabela, Apayao, and Kalinga are also likely to see moderate to heavy precipitation.
“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” warned PAGASA.
The ITCZ is currently impacting weather conditions in the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan regions. Meanwhile, shear line is affecting the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.
The potential for flash floods or landslides is heightened due to the forecasted moderate to heavy rains.
Disaster risk reduction offices are alerted to remain vigilant and monitor conditions closely, issuing necessary warnings as severe weather develops.
