The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Sunday that more than 2 million voter applications were processed as the voter registration ended on August 10.
Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said the 10-day voter registration—held from August 1 to August 10—has recorded more than 2.1 million voter registrations.
At least six regions posted over 100,000 applications each, with Calabarzon leading the count at 217,386, followed by Central Luzon (180,305), Bicol Region (137,129), Metro Manila (129,943), Central Visayas (117,631), and Ilocos Region (115,803).
“As voter registration concludes, we extend our gratitude to the more than 2 million who volunteered, patiently lined up, and participated in the most successful, historic, and extraordinary opportunity like this in such a short period of time,” Garcia said in his message to the media.
“This is just proof that we want everyone’s voice to be heard regardless of our status in life. It is the Filipino youth who truly stand firm in carrying the future of the nation,” he added.
The barangay elections were last held in 2023 and are projected to be pushed back to 2026 with the expected passage of a law giving village officials four-year terms.
The nationwide registration was conducted in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, originally scheduled for December 1, but will be postponed to November 2026, awaiting the enactment of the law.
“That is the largest in the history of our election registration, where in just a few days we have registered that much,” Garcia said.
