Protect your shipments! Customs releases ‘balikbayan box’ alert

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and its collection district in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) came up with a list of both foreign and local forwarding firms that were reported for abandoned balikbayan boxes, among other outstanding issues.

“Be informed! Protect your shipments! To safeguard the interests and well-being of our fellow Filipinos, we would like to bring to your attention a list of forwarding companies, both foreign and local, that have been reported for incidents of abandoned balikbayan boxes and have derogatory reports against them,” BOC wrote in its public advisory posted on social media Thursday, Jan. 25.

“It is important to exercise due diligence when selecting a forwarding company to ensure the safe and timely delivery of your balikbayan boxes,” the agency added.

The BOC identified the following foreign forwarders/consolidators with reported abandoned balikbayan boxes: Kabayan Island Express Cargo, GM Multi services Cargo, Allwin Cargo LLC, Sel Air Cargo, Manila Cargo, Sky Freight, Mediacom Express Cargo, CMS General Services, and Pinoy Network Cargo.

The local forwarders/deconsolidators were identified as FBV Forwarders and Logistics, ETMAR International Inc. Logistics, Cargoflex Haulers Corp., KC Door to Door Delivery Services, Rensworld Freight Logistics Corp., FGTI Forwarding Services, and CMG International Movers.

“These companies have a history of abandoned balikbayan boxes and derogatory reports,” the bureau stated.

The agency advised the public to choose reputable forwarding companies accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry to ensure the safety of their packages.

“Report Incidents: If you encounter issues with your shipment, report them to the relevant authorities,” the BOC advised.
