Comelec: Precincts with ballot issues to extend voting period

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said polling precincts nationwide that encountered issues surrounding their ballots are set to extend their voting hours.

In a press conference held on Monday night, Comelec Chairman George Garcia announced that at least 15 precincts will be provided with new ballots.

This is to help address concerns in their ballot sheets, including those whose timing marks were not fed by the automated counting machines (ACMs) throughout the day.

“We can’t want to disregard these precincts. Therefore, we will have to continue with the elections. We are coming up with a resolution on this matter,” Garcia said.

While assuring that these precincts will not be declared as “failure of elections,” the poll body chief said that these won’t affect the results of the elections set to end at 7 p.m.

“We still need to proceed with the elections so as not to disenfranchise the voters,” Garcia said.

The said ballots will later be delivered by military trucks to affected areas across the country.
