Cayetano-led slate files for candidacy

Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano has filed her certificate of candidacy for reelection in the upcoming midterm polls, along with the entire slate of Team TLC (Transformative, Lively, and Caring) at the Taguig Convention Center.

The team includes re-electionists Vice Mayor Arvin Alit and Taguig-Pateros district Representative Ricardo Cruz, as well as incumbent Councilor Jorge Bocobo, who is running for congressman in the city’s second district.

Cruz will face off against Cayetano’s brother-in-law, Lino Edgardo Cayetano, a well-known dramatic film and TV series director who is making a political comeback. Both candidates are supporters of the incumbent mayor.

Laarni, the wife of incumbent Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, became the first female mayor of Taguig in 2010 at the age of 28, making her one of the youngest local chief executives in the Philippines. She was re-elected in 2013 and 2016.

The other Cayetano, also incumbent Senator Pia Cayetano, is seeking reelection under the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, the administration slate formed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Their father, the late Renato Luna Cayetano, served as senator from 1998 to 2003.

Taguig, a highly urbanized city in the southeastern part of Metro Manila, has transformed from a fishing community into a central business district. It currently administers Bonifacio Global City, considered one of Metro Manila’s central business districts alongside Makati CBD and Ortigas Center.

Recent developments in Taguig include Arca South, Ayala Land’s 70-hectare business district, and the Laguna de Bay Lakeshore Development along Circumferential Road – 6 (C-6 Road).
