Malacañang on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of former Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog as an undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), marking his return to government service years after he went into self-exile during the Duterte administration.
Mabilog served as mayor of Iloilo City from 2010 to 2019 and was once among the local officials publicly accused by former president Rodrigo Duterte of alleged links to illegal drugs, accusations he repeatedly denied.
He left the Philippines in 2017 and stayed abroad for several years before returning in September 2024.
In January 2025, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. granted executive clemency to Mabilog in connection with an administrative case, removing penalties tied to the ruling.
The DILG oversees local governments and supervises the Philippine National Police and other public safety agencies.
Mabilog’s appointment comes as the Marcos administration continues to make changes and new appointments across several government agencies in recent months.
