Palace announces half-day, remote gov’t work on April 1

Malacañang on Tuesday declared that government employees will follow a half-day, work-from-home arrangement on Holy Wednesday.

Memorandum Circular No. 116 was released Tuesday by the Office of the President and signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto by authority of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

It orders government offices to implement a work-from-home arrangement from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on April 1, followed by a suspension of work starting noon.

The directive aims to give government employees “full opportunity to properly observe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday” on April 2 and 3, allowing them time to travel to their home regions for the religious holidays.

However, agencies involved in delivering basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other critical operations are required to continue working under normal arrangements to ensure uninterrupted public service.

The memorandum also states that decisions on work-from-home arrangements or work suspensions for private companies will be at the discretion of their respective employers.
