Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island emitted ash at its summit crater on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The ash emission occurred at 12:50 a.m. on Friday and lasted for 17 minutes.
The event generated plumes that rose up to 300 meters above the crater before drifting southwest as recorded by the thermal camera at the Lower Masulog observation station.
Phivolcs cautioned those within the areas of the volcano that steam-driven or phreatic explosions and possible magma eruptions are still likely to occur.
Last Thursday, Phivolcs recorded 11 volcanic earthquakes, and emission of 1,118 tons of sulfur dioxide, of which its plume height was measured at seven meters. Ground deformation was also observed.
Alert Level 2 stays over Kanlaon Volcano.
Phivolcs maintained that entry into the Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited, while aircraft are warned not to fly near the volcano’s summit.
