206 families affected by Mindoro clashes — NDRRMC

A total of 206 families, or 841 individuals, were affected by armed encounters between government troops and the Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army–National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) in Sitio Mamara, Barangay Cabacao, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, on January 1, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its incident report, the NDRRMC said 186 families are currently sheltered at evacuation centers, while 15 families have sought refuge outside.

The clashes reportedly involved government forces and remnants of the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya–Island Committee Mindoro (KLG-ICM) under the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee.

In a statement released Friday, National Democratic Front (NDF) Mindoro spokesperson Patricia Andal said Jerlyn Rose Doydora, reportedly a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education major in English at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, died after suffering an illness during the conflict.

Meanwhile, the Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade said troops recovered several items at the encounter site, including Doydora’s Land Bank of the Philippines and Bank of the Philippine Islands ATM debit cards, photos of several youth, an identification card belonging to a certain Stephanie Jhoy Borinaga, 20, a resident of Sitio Pagkakaisa, Sucat, Muntinlupa, as well as medical and hygiene kits, personal belongings, food items, and alleged subversive documents.
