Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Sunday expressed confidence that the decline in crime incidents recorded in 2025 will continue in 2026.
The PNP reported a 12.4% decrease in crime incidents last year, underscoring that public safety remains its top priority.
Nartatez said the reduction was the result of sustained, whole-of-government efforts, including intelligence-driven operations, intensified police visibility, and stronger coordination with local government units and communities.
PNP data showed focus crimes dropped from 40,771 cases in 2024 to 35,717 in 2025, with notable reductions in rape, carnapping, murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, and theft.
“This is not an overnight success. We intensified discipline, accountability, and professionalism among police officers,” Nartatez said.
He also cited public cooperation as a key factor in crime reduction and said the PNP will continue to strengthen data-driven policing, preventive patrols, faster response times, and internal discipline to maintain public trust.
