Malacañang on Friday confirmed that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed three new members to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Based on the appointment papers released by the Palace, the President signed the appointment for Nestor Cuartero, Maria Rosario Fabregas, and Ma. Cecilia Villarosa to the MTRCB on December 2.
The three will serve until Sept. 30, 2026, filling vacancies left by Jerry Talavera, Cherry Anne Espion, and Jan Marini Cadungog.
The MTRCB is responsible for reviewing, classifying, and regulating motion pictures, television programs, and other audiovisual materials before public exhibition in the Philippines.
The agency operates under the Office of the President and is tasked with ensuring that content adheres to standards considered appropriate for Filipino audiences, particularly minors.
Created in 1985 through Presidential Decree No. 1986, the board has evolved from earlier film censorship bodies and now combines classification with content review to balance artistic expression with social responsibility.
The MTRCB’s 32-member panel, which includes a chairperson, vice chair, and other board members, applies a system of ratings, such as G (general patronage), PG (parental guidance), and age-restricted classifications, to help inform viewers about the nature of media content.
