The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Saturday welcomed the latest results of the Tugon ng Masa (TNM) nationwide survey conducted by OCTA Research showing that about 70 percent of adult Filipinos are willing to fight for the country should a conflict arise.
“This overwhelming expression of readiness reflects the enduring patriotism of the Filipino people and their deep commitment to protecting our nation’s sovereignty and future,” the AFP said.
The military noted with pride that this sentiment cuts across socioeconomic classes, regions, cultures, and ethnic groups, demonstrating that, despite differences, love of country remains a unifying force for Filipinos.
“As part of its mandate, the AFP will continue strengthening its Reserve Force development, community engagement programs, and modernization efforts to ensure that citizens not only feel capable of contributing to national defense but also confident in the country’s defense institutions,” the AFP said.
The Department of National Defense (DND) on Friday similarly welcomed the survey, saying the findings reaffirm the Filipino people’s readiness to stand united in defending the country in times of conflict.
In an official statement, DND spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Arsenio Andolong noted that the results reflect an enduring national unity that becomes even stronger when the Philippines faces external threats.
“This profound sense of civic duty and patriotism cuts across ages and socio-economic classes, and speaks volumes of the enduring unity that binds the Filipino people when faced by external threats,” the statement read.
Andolong said the AFP draws strength from the public’s overwhelming support and willingness to stand beside the troops.
He emphasized that the DND and AFP are working “doubly hard” to build a credible deterrent capability to prevent conflict within and near Philippine borders.
“May this message ring loudly to those who seek to sow discord among our citizens: the bonds that hold our nation together remain strong. Any attempt to undermine our values and democratic way of life will be met with steadfast resistance,” Andolong said.
