The Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) has initiated an investigation to locate and identify the owner of 49 grams of abandoned marijuana retrieved from a restroom of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport – Terminal 2.
A janitor who found the illegal substance dumped in a trash bin in a male comfort room promptly notified airport security.
Personnel from the PNP-Avsegroup arrived at the scene, secured the area, and collaborated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (IADITG). A K9 unit confirmed a positive indication of illegal drugs.
Probers are now reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses to gather more information to determine how the substance ended up in such a secure location and whether any security protocols were breached.
