The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) assured on Monday that the planned strikes of various transport groups on September 18 will not cripple commuters’ mobility, emphasizing that government agencies are prepared to mitigate potential public inconvenience.
“We recognize the right of transport groups to express their grievances. However, I want to assure our commuters that the LTFRB, in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority), and concerned local government units, have prepared contingency measures to ensure that the riding public will not be stranded,” said LTFRB chief Teofilo Guadiz III.
Free rides will be deployed through government vehicles, military trucks, buses, and modernized public utility vehicles to fill any gaps in transportation service, according to the LTFRB.
Guadiz issued the statement after several transport groups announced plans to launch massive rallies in protest against widespread corruption affecting their sector on top of other economic challenges.
