MANKAYAN, Benguet—An 18-year-old pregnant woman reportedly died a landslide triggered by a heavy downpour Wednesday evening in Brookside, Purok 6, Barangay Bulanao of this town.
Police identified the victim as Ivy Khate Ogues Dizon who was allegedly trapped inside the house that was partly buried by the massive soil erosion.
Dizon’s mother and siblings were able to run outside and survive the disaster.
Members of the local disaster risk reduction and management council, assisted by policemen, firemen, and neighbors of the victim dug through the rubble to flush out Dizon.
The victim was taken to the Lutheran hospital in nearby Abatan, Buguias but she was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, authorities advised residents living in so-called landslide-prone areas in the province to be on alert for any eventuality, especially at the height of heavy rains.
