The Philippine Navy on Tuesday launched its new command that addresses evolving security challenges in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) and other parts of the country.
According to the Navy, the Naval Forces West officially transitioned to the Western Naval Command (WesNavCom), a move that signifies a pivotal step in the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) modernization drive.
Navy chief Vice Admiral Ezpeleta commended the unit’s unwavering contributions to national defense and emphasized its vital role in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests.
“The formal renaming and elevation of Naval Forces West to Western Naval Command supports our unwavering determination to pursue a holistic defense posture anchored in the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept and highlights the growing role that each of you will play to protect our seas and secure our maritime nation’s future,” he stated.
The ceremony featured the unveiling of the new WesNavCom logo and unit insignia, alongside a dynamic audiovisual presentation tracing the command’s evolution.
“Under its new structure, the Western Naval Command is tasked with enhancing maritime security operations and asserting a proactive defense posture across the nation’s western maritime frontier. This strategic realignment aligns with the Philippine Navy’s vision to maintain a credible defense force capable of responding to emerging security challenges,” the Navy said.
New command chief Commodore Vincent Sibala emphasized the unity and resolve required for this new chapter.
“As we embark on this new chapter, let us lead with unwavering courage and steadfast conviction-standing united as one force, ready to confront every challenge with resilience and determination. Together, we embody the strength of our solidarity and the unbreakable commitment to defend what is rightfully ours and secure a prosperous future for our nation,” he said.
