Comelec to proclaim winning senators by weekend

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expected to proclaim the winning 12 senators for Eleksyon 2025 within three days or as early as this Saturday (May 17) as 98.9 percent of the Election Returns (ERs) have been received by the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).

Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia made the assurance on Tuesday, saying while the remaining certificates of canvass (COCs) may not affect the results, they wanted to process 100 percent of the ballots.

“We can proclaim winning senators by Saturday or Sunday,” he said. “It’s quite fast. As you can see, 98.9% is already there, just a little piece is missing,” the poll body chief said of developments post-elections.

“Even if the missing part is absent, as long as it can be sent to us at the national board, perhaps the remaining results will have no effect. But of course, the Comelec needs to have a 100% canvass. No single COC should be left behind when the Comelec conducts the canvass,” Garcia added.

As of Tuesday, data from the Comelec showed 98.5 percent of the local ERs—or 89,210 of the 93,387 ERs—have been received. Meanwhile, 194 of the 242 ERs from overseas voting or 80.16 percent have been sent to Comelec.

Comelec transparency servers showed the transmitted local ERs stood at 98.99%. This translates to 92,453 out of the total 93,387 expected ERs. This means that for the local voting, only 4,177 ERs have not been sent, and for the overseas voting, there are 48 ERs remaining.

Regarding the COCs, or final vote tallies from Comelec, 27.08 percent or 445 of 1,643 certificates for city and municipal races have been received. For the provincial and district COCs, only one has been sent, with 83 others still awaiting transmittal.

For the overseas COCs, 38 of 64 certificates have been sent already, indicating a transmittal rate of 59.37 percent.

Garcia is hoping we will proclaim all 12 senatorial winners and party-list groups by Saturday if all ER results will be transmitted today.
