Malacañang on Thursday condemned the killing of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que and assured the public that a full investigation is underway.
“I spoke earlier with General [Nicolas] Torre III and General Jean Fajardo,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a press briefing.
“They confirmed that they are now coordinating with the victim’s family and will hold a press conference today. The family had initially requested silence while the case was under investigation,” she added.
Que’s death has sparked renewed alarm in the Filipino-Chinese business community, which has reported at least 12 kidnapping incidents so far this year.
The series of cases has prompted calls for swift government action.
The PCO Undersecretary said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the crimes and ensure accountability.
“This is not something the government will turn a blind eye to… The President has instructed authorities to pursue these cases with urgency to reduce — if not eradicate — these kinds of crimes in the country,” Castro said.
