A grassfire is currently spreading on the southwest portion of Taal Volcano Island, directly affecting the Binintiang Munti Observation Station, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed on Monday.
According to the seismic agency, the fire was first recorded at 11:24 AM by the station’s IP camera, as well as another camera at its station in Agoncillo, Batangas.
Phivolcs noted that the Binintiang Munti station has been impacted by similar incidents before, including fires on March 3, 2023, and May 2, 2024, which were caused by kindling.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with disaster response teams in Batangas.
Despite the incident, Phivolcs maintains Alert Level 1 over Taal Volcano, indicating low-level unrest.
Residents and tourists are advised to stay informed and follow updates from local authorities.
