Tingog Party-list commended the government’s efficient and collaborative repatriation of 187 Filipino human trafficking victims from Myanmar.
This effort, led by the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Migrant Workers, involved vital cooperation with Thai and Myanmar authorities.
The party-list, represented by Reps. Jude Acidre and Yedda Marie Romualdez emphasized that this ASEAN-wide action highlights the urgent need to combat the region’s increasing human trafficking crisis. They stressed that it serves as a stark reminder of the persistent danger trafficking poses to vulnerable people and communities.
Despite the successful repatriation, concern remains for the 62 Filipinos still held in Myanmar trafficking compounds. Tingog pointed out that this situation underscores the persistent nature of human trafficking, which targets marginalized individuals. They called for stronger preventive measures, increased law enforcement collaboration, and enhanced public awareness campaigns to protect citizens.
Government agencies were urged to intensify and maintain efforts to identify, rescue, and support trafficking victims.
