The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is accelerating the modernization efforts at Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban to meet the April 2026 deadline set by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
As of March 14, the construction of the new Passenger Terminal Building at the airport is 56.48 percent complete.
“Once operational, the upgraded terminal will greatly improve passenger convenience and operational efficiency, in line with the government’s commitment to modernizing the country’s aviation infrastructure,” CAAP chief information officer Eric Apolonio said.
Officials from the Transportation and Aviation authorities on Friday inspected the construction site.
The inspection was led by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario, Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun Lucas, along with other key officials from the DOTr, in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The visit focused on evaluating the progress of the new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), a crucial component of the development project.
Both agencies have since reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing air travel infrastructure and regional connectivity.
