Office for Transportation Security (OTS) administrator Arthur Bisnar assured the public that any abuses by officers will not be tolerated and will not go unnoticed.
The assurance came after three OTS personnel were terminated for their alleged involvement in the so-called “bullet-planting” extortion scheme at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The latest incident occurred on March 6 and involved OTS security screening officers. It was captured on video and subsequently went viral on social media and various media outlets.
“There is no need to insult or harass our passengers to ensure the security of our airport. There are many effective ways to implement airport security,” Bisnar said.
The OTS acknowledged the concerns the incident raised and assured the public that maintaining the highest standards of security at all domestic and international airports remains its top priority.
Bisnar urged the public, especially air travelers, to report any cases of abuse or harassment by personnel to the OTS Hotline: 0960-461-6877 or the DOTr Commuter Hotline: 0920-946-3687.
“We are actively working to minimize disruptions while ensuring the safety of all travelers,” he added.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon reiterated President Marcos’ reminder that the misuse of positions by government personnel will not be tolerated by his agency.
“We are sending a clear message to everyone in government that we will not tolerate this behavior toward our citizens. We are serious about this,” Dizon said.
“That is the President’s directive. Just because you are a government worker does not give you the right to abuse your power over people,” he added.
