HEALTH authorities have placed Cavite under alert amid alarming increase in dengue incidence in the entire province.
The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) recorded said it recorded 3379 cases through the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Medical Hospital in Trece Martires City from January 1 to February 22, 2025 data.
Provincial health officer Dr. Nelson Soriano said the figure represented an increase of 409 percent higher compared to the same period of last year which logged 664 cases.
Ten municipalities reported more than 100 cases of dengue, led by Imus with 501, followed by Bacoor with 456, Dasmariñas with 416, General Trias with 394, Tanza 335, Cavite City had 223, Naic 219, Rosario 141, Kawit 124, and Carmona City with 112.
Thirty-three patients out of the 3379 were classified as severe, while 126 or 63 percent were given warning signs, and 1,220 or 38 percent with no warning signs.
So far, eight patients had died, three of them from Trece Martires, two from Gen. Mariano Alvarez, and one each from Silang, Carmona, and Bacoor.
According to Imus Mayor Alex Advincula of Imus, the dengue outbreak was not isolated in Cavite alone, adding that Metro Manila was also encountering the same problem.
“The local government of Imus continues to act, our City Health Office and City Environment Office staff conducted misting, fogging the clean-up drive in every sitio and barangay to fight dengue,” Advincula said.
I told every barangay I go to, the surroundings must always be clean. We give out lotions to every school in the city, hoping that we will continue to fight dengue cases with our cooperation; we will be able to reduce it, Advincula added.
