INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla warned against corrupt practices of some fire department personnel who sell fire extinguishers to business owners in exchange for fire safety clearances for their establishments.
“Fire marshals are not allowed to sell fire extinguishers and if anyone does, report it to me immediately and I will remove them on the spot,” he said.

Remulla also said that when he was Cavite governor, he berated fire personnel who engaged in illegal practices, including endorsing contractors for fire sprinklers. “I’m so angry about that…That’s nonsense. Why would you make it difficult for the business? It’s providing jobs and you just want to make money,” he said.
