The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) at the Manila International Container Port was recognized as the Best Performing Field Station Office after seizing P60.5 billion worth of contraband and anti-social goods in 2024.

The CIIS-MICP recorded the highest estimated value of seizures and apprehensions in several categories, including illegal drugs (valued at P876 million), counterfeit goods (P20.282 billion), vehicles and vessels (P3.280 billion), agricultural products (valued at P938 million), cigarettes, tobacco, and vape products (P3.729 billion), as well as various other commodities (P32.058 billion).

The team, led by Chief Intelligence Officer Alvin Enciso, played a crucial role in seizing P635 million worth of illegal drugs that were hidden inside balikbayan boxes.

The group also apprehended smuggled rice valued at P650 million through the implementation of a Letter of Authority at nine different warehouses located in Bulacan.

Additionally, it confiscated a shipment of vapes worth P1.7 billion.

Four months ago, Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio commended the CIIS-MICP for a successful operation in Navotas, which led to the seizure of over P20 million worth of smuggled fuel.

Rubio urged his team to maintain momentum and continue delivering significant results, emphasizing the importance of good governance and effective measures against illicit trade.

“We anticipate the same or even better performance from our CIIS. As we recognize that the challenges we face are evolving, we must strengthen our anti-smuggling efforts, always keeping in mind that safeguarding our society is paramount,” he said.
