MAKATI City Mayor and senatorial aspirant Abigail Binay has met with local officials of Cebu province led by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to discuss social programs and policies promoting good governance and urban development.
During the meeting, Garcia cited the initiatives Binay implemented in Makati, particularly in the areas of health and education.
“The education package is impressive, especially the COVID-19 kits provided during the pandemic,” Garcia noted as she welcomed Binay at the Cebu provincial capitol.
The local leaders explored ways to strengthen partnerships between the national and local governments with a view to promoting more inclusive growth.
Binay also delivered a message during the Sugbo Negosyo seed money distribution event, offering to promote the products of the winning Cebuano micro-small medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Makati.
Sugbo Negosyo is a program that provides qualified beneficiaries with mentorship and a capital grant of P200,000 to help improve their products and services.
Binay also met with Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia at Cebu city hall.
She likewise paid a courtesy visit to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan and Rep. Cynthia Chan at Lapu-Lapu city hall.
In addition, Mayor Binay talked with Cebu Representatives Emmarie Ouano-Dizon, Peter Calderon, Janice Salimbangon, and Edsel Galeos to share insights gained from her previous experience as a member of the House of Representatives.
During their dialogue, Binay discussed how the Makati was able to institutionalize healthcare policies, including the provision of free medicines for city residents, city hall employees, and other beneficiaries under the Yellow Card program.
Binay also held dialogues with various mayors from the province, extending an invitation for benchmarking visits to Makati. “We are eager to share our experiences. You are always welcome in Makati for a benchmarking activity,” she said.
Last Sunday, Binay addressed 44 municipal mayors of Cebu, discussing strategies to improve health and education services in their respective localities.
