House Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas sought an investigation into the case of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Jenny Sanchez Alvarado, whose remains were allegedly switched with those of a Nepali domestic worker who also died in Kuwait.

“This is a grave insult to the dignity of our OFWs and their families. How did it happen that the body of a Nepali national was brought home to the Philippines while the Alvarado family was waiting for their mother?” Brosas said in a mix of English and Filipino.

The lawmaker said the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait must be held accountable for this serious protocol lapse.

“The incident has caused severe emotional distress to Alvarado’s husband and five children, who only discovered the wrong remains upon opening the casket at a funeral home in Cavite,” Brosas said.

“We demand answers from the DMW and our embassy officials. Where did Jenny’s remains go? Why is the identification process flawed? This negligence is unacceptable and someone must be held accountable,” she added.

The House leader also raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the death of three domestic workers, including Alvarado, who reportedly died of suffocation on January 2: “We call for a full investigation into the deaths of these three domestic workers… We need to ensure that there was no foul play involved.”
