The Commission on Elections (Comelec), in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government agencies, officially launched checkpoints nationwide on Sunday, January 12, 2025, as part of ongoing intensified efforts to secure the 2025 national and local elections.
Comelec chairperson George Garcia led a ceremonial send-off of police officers at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Manila, marking the start of the election period.
PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil announced that police personnel stationed at checkpoints would be equipped with body-worn cameras and other recording devices to enhance transparency and accountability.
In Quezon City, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. established 33 strategically located checkpoints, including those at Elliptical Road corner Kalayaan Avenue, LRT Anonas Station, and Welcome Rotonda in Barangay Don Manuel.
These checkpoints became operational by 12:01 a.m. on January 12 and will remain active until June 11, 2025. To ensure strict compliance with election-related regulations, Buslig and his team also conducted inspections at various sites on Sunday.
He directed personnel from QCPD headquarters and its 16 police stations to reinforce security and anti-crime measures throughout the city.
Buslig also appealed to the public for full cooperation, emphasizing the importance of checkpoints in maintaining public safety and deterring election-related offenses.
The Comelec reminds citizens to observe checkpoint protocols and comply with regulations to help ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
