Vasquez also serenaded the First Couple with John Lennon’s “Imagine” after knowing the President is a huge fan of English rock band The Beatles.

The 32-year-old singer made history as the first Filipino and Asian to win the prestigious singing competition, earning him international acclaim. Representing Team Bublé, he was mentored by celebrated singer-songwriter Michael Bublé.

In the show’s highly competitive finale, Vasquez captivated American audiences with standout performances of Sia’s Unstoppable and A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman.

Vasquez secured the majority of public votes, earning him a $100,000 cash prize and a recording contract with Universal Music Group.

“I am deeply grateful to all the Filipinos everywhere, especially in America, for their love and support,” Vasquez said in a social media post following his victory.

President Marcos lauded Vasquez for bringing pride to the Philippines and showcasing Filipino talent on the global stage.

“Sofronio’s achievement is a testament to the extraordinary talent and resilience of Filipinos. His victory inspires us all,” the President said.

Before his rise to international fame, Vasquez honed his skills in the Philippines as a semifinalist on Tawag ng Tanghalan, a popular segment of the variety show “It’s Showtime.”
