The state weather bureau said a tropical cyclone may form inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility in January.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the cyclone may make landfall near Eastern Visayas or the Caraga Region, according to an Unang Balita report on Wednesday.
It may also deviate from the country. Reports said one person died, two remain missing, while 20 others were injured in Davao Occidental province due to heavy rains spawned by an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) since last week, the Office of the Civil Defense in Davao Region (OCD-11), quoted by a GMA News report, said on Tuesday.
Earlier, reports said persistent rains caused by the ITCZ caused flooding and landslides in several municipalities of the Davao region, particularly in Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental on December 26.
In a statement, the OCD-11 said bad weather has affected 6,476 families or 28,686 persons, as one road section and three bridges in Davao Occidental remain impassable.
Heavy rains and flooding in the province also partially damaged around 321 houses, and 238 others were destroyed.
Meanwhile, the country continues to be affected on Wednesday by the Intertropical
Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the shear line, PAGASA said.
The ITCZ may cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Palawan, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Mindanao.
The shear line may bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Apayao, Aurora, Bulacan, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon.
Cloudy skies with rains will be felt over Batanes, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains may be experienced over Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and Nueva Vizcaya due to the Northeast Monsoon.
