Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy Galido emphasized the military land unit’s role in implementing the National Security Strategy (NSS) Plan 2024.
In an interview with reporters, Galido stated that the NSS plan aims to utilize the army’s capabilities to eradicate the local communist movement in the country completely.
“Critical here is the army’s ability to once and for all totally dominate the local communist movement, which we have done,” he remarked.
“As briefed to you by the Chief of Staff last week, there’s only one remaining. We can get it in front. But more importantly, here is the establishment of a security framework that is a whole nation approach,” he added.
Additionally, Galido noted that the Army’s role in the NSS will include identifying potential adversarial threats.
“And we have to strengthen the government and some mentalities to be able to implement this security concept. You are very much aware of foreign threats that are not kinetic,” he explained.
“So that’s our role: once we have identified possible adversarial threats, in accordance with our laws, we assist the proper entities in implementing that law.”
Galido explained that these roles can be achieved through effective communication with other military units and by combating disinformation.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the NSS 2024, which is described as a comprehensive guide designed to shape a safer, more secure, prosperous, and united country.
The NSS implements the administration’s National Security Policy 2023-2028, adopted under Executive Order No. 37, according to the National Security Council (NSC).
