The Philippine Air Force (PAF) demonstrated its commitment to preserving aviation history through the Blessing and Formal Transfer Ceremony of an S-211 Marchetti aircraft to Barangay 183, Zone 20, Villamor, Pasay City.
“The placement of the aircraft in Barangay 183 honors the historical significance of Nichols Field, recognized as the birthplace of the Philippine Air Force. The S-211 aircraft will serve as a lasting symbol of the PAF’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s skies and inspiring future generations,” said PAF Spokesperson Colonel Maria Consuelo Castillo.
Acquired by the PAF in 1994, the versatile S-211 was officially handed over during the ceremony held on December 15, 2024, at Menzi Park Ground, Andrews Avenue.
This decommissioned aircraft, with tail number 814, was previously operated by the PAF’s 5th Fighter Wing under the Air Defense Command.
It served the nation in various capacities, including jet training, air defense exercises, and counter-insurgency operations.
In his message, LtGen Stephen Parreño expressed gratitude to Barangay 183 for their enduring partnership and support. He emphasized that the donation of the S-211 is not only a commemoration of the past but also a vision for the future, symbolizing the strong relationship between the PAF and the community.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including MGen Fabian M. Pedregosa, Commander of Air Defense Command; BGen Leo A. Fontanilla, Wing Commander of the 5th Fighter Wing; Barangay 183 Chairman Hon. Alvin Zuñiga; HPAF Staff; PAF Executive Committee Members; and employees of Barangay 183.
