Gun-for-hire possible in BFAR exec killing in Davao del Norte

Police are looking into the possibility that the unidentified gunman who shot dead 42-year-old Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) National Mariculture Center official Karen Diana Candilosas in Panabo City was a “gun for hire.”

In a phone interview on Monday, Davao Del Norte Provincial Director Alexander Serrano disclosed they are eyeing a personal grudge or work-related motive in the killing.

“We are still looking at all angles at this time and checking the CCTVs in the area of the incident,” Serrano said.

According to their investigation, it was the Candilosas’ first time visiting the area where she was killed.

The victim was inside her vehicle, parked in front of ALT Fisheries and Aqua Ventures Inc. in Purok Marang, Barangay Cagangohan, at around 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, when the suspects aboard a motorcycle and wearing black jackets approached and then fired a gun at her.

A senior marine specialist at BFAR, Candilosas was a resident of Panabo.
