THE Senate Committee on Finance has approved a proposal by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian to increase funding for textbooks and learning materials with additional P300 million.
In the proposed 2025 national budget, P300 million will be added to the original P12.4 billion for textbooks and learning materials, especially for Grade 3 and their teachers.
The Senate recently approved the final version of the national budget.
“I thank the Senate Committee on Finance for approving the extra P300 million for buying textbooks and teaching materials,” Gatchalian said during discussions on the proposed 2025 budget for the Department of Education (DepEd) and its attached agencies.
Gatchalian said beyond increasing the budget for textbooks and materials, “we must improve the procurement process to ensure that all students receive complete sets of textbooks.”
