Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong underscored on Sunday the stark contrast between President Ferdinand Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte with the former opting to focus on his responsibilities while the latter allegedly evades accountability.
“The President is laser-focused on addressing the most pressing issues of the nation,” Adiong stated, referring to Marcos’ appeal to lawmakers to refrain from pursuing an impeachment case against Duterte.
The Mindanaoan legislator noted the striking differences in the characters of both leaders. He criticized Duterte’s recent threats toward government officials and pointed out her repeated taunts for the government to impeach her as indicative of a troubling approach to governance.
“A threat is a threat no matter what, even if it’s perceived to be conditional. The intent is there, the plan to kill the President was made in public. And she uttered no joke not once, but twice. What can be clearer than that? Filipinos are not stupid,” Adiong said.
The Vice President faced mounting scrutiny over her refusal to explain the P612.5 million in confidential funds allocated to her offices in 2022 and 2023. She also drew controversy for her refusal to leave the House premises during a visit to her then detained chief of staff, lawyer Zuleika Lopez.
