The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) grieves with the entire nation on the passing of the country’s first female muslim Senator, Senator Santanina Tillah Rasul.
In a statement, PMA described Senator Rasul as a visionary public servant who left an indelible mark in the fabric of the nation.
“Authoring the Republic Act No. 7192 or the Women in Development and Nation-Building Act, it paved the way for the entry of women in the PMA that significantly shaped our armed forces as it is today; a professional military organization capitalizing on diversity and inclusivity within its ranks,” the PMA said.
“Her legacy will continue to live on and inspire the future generations,” the statement continued.
Since 1997, a total of 764 women graduated from the hallowed grounds of Fort General Gregorio H Del Pilar, now faithfully and honorably serving the Filipino people and protecting our country.
“The Academy extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the Senator, and we stand with all who mourn during this profoundly challenging time.”
