Agricultural damages caused by ‘Marce’ rises to P16 million

Typhoon Marce (international name: Yinxing) caused an estimated agricultural damage of P16,247,830, according to a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) which was released on Monday.

In the Ilocos Region alone, Marce led to a production loss of 795.82 metric tons, affecting 1,640 farmers and fisherfolk.

In Cagayan Valley, infrastructure damage due to Marce amounted to P25,398,600.

The typhoon also resulted in significant housing destruction across the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), with 26,901 houses partially damaged and 1,136 houses completely destroyed.

Seventeen roads and four bridges remain impassable. One fatality has been reported, along with one person missing in the Ilocos Region.

In total, Marce has affected 374,177 individuals, equivalent to 107,325 families, across 924 barangays. Currently, 46 families are staying in evacuation centers while another 44 are seeking refuge elsewhere.

In response to the devastation, two localities—one in the Ilocos Region and another in Cagayan Valley—have declared a state of calamity.

The NDRRMC also reported that over P40 million worth of assistance has been extended to those impacted by the typhoon.
