UP, Aussie university sign pact on forensic training

The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila partnered with Monash University of Australia to conduct forensic science training and research activities in the Philippines.

The partnership aims to increase the number of forensic experts and medico-legal investigators in the country.

UP Manila, represented by Chancellor Michael Tee, and Monash University, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice President Craig Jeffrey signed a memorandum of agreement on Thursday which was facilitated by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chair, Secretary Popoy De Vera.

Monash University will deliver two-year Master’s Degree and short-term certificate programs in forensic science with the University of the Philippines Manila through a hybrid set-up.

The deployment of Monash University will be funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), to help Filipinos develop programs and expertise in forensic science and increase the number of local experts.

UP Manila and Monash University are planning to launch the initiative as early as February next year. The signed memorandum will be presented to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin who is closely monitoring the development of this program.
