Binay: Free maintenance meds for Makati residents

Makati City Mayor and senatorial aspirant Abigail Binay plans to push for free maintenance medicine for the poorest of the poor as part of her legislative agenda.

Binay cited options to secure funding for the program, including Congress allocating a portion of the budget or exploring public-private partnerships for better access to quality healthcare.

The initiative will be part of her priority bills focusing on strengthening social programs, particularly health and education. She emphasized that addressing healthcare concerns will enable Filipino citizens to focus more on their livelihood and family needs.

Since 2017, the Makati city government has invested around P8 billion to provide maintenance medicine and other pharmaceutical needs for hundreds of thousands of city residents.

Makati’s free medicine program covers medicines and pharmaceutical products for hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, high cholesterol, enlarged prostate, gout, cough, colds, sexually transmitted infections, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, seizure disorder, allergy, ulcers, vertigo, gastrointestinal problems, and other diseases.
