DSWD assures continuous aid for fire-hit families in Tondo

A senior official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured households affected by a recent fire incident in Barangay 105 in Tondo, Manila that the agency will assist them towards full recovery.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. always orders that if the DSWD is going to help…it must be what it really feels like. If family food packs can help, that’s what we provide. If a second or third round [assistance] is needed, after the assessment, we will do that,” DSWD Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Diana Rose Cajipe told the affected beneficiaries during the payout activity.

A total of 2,006 fire-affected households received their respective Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) assistance worth P10,140 each. The ECT payout was held at the Vicente Lim Elementary School in Tondo, Manila.

Overseeing the ECT payout were DSWD Field Office-National Capital Region Asst. Regional Director Bienvenido Barbosa, Jr., Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, and Councilor Marjun Isidro.

According to DSWD, the cash assistance provided to the beneficiaries shall be used to rebuild her fire-gutted home.

The ECT is an adaptive strategy for bridging the gaps between immediate disaster relief, humanitarian response, and early recovery support through outright cash aid for disaster-affected families in areas under a state of calamity.
