Laurie Pressman, the institute’s VP, likens it to a blank canvas, saying this white “opens the door to new approaches by shedding outdated thinking and leaving room where ideas can drift and take shape.”
Fashion designer Fred Leysa sees the choice as a cultural signal. As the first white named Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer points to a growing desire for calm after years of overstimulation from politics, work, social media, and daily life.
“This white does not seek attention. It offers relief,” Leysa noted.
In fashion, Cloud Dancer acts as a backbone, supporting rather than competing. It adds lightness to oversized silhouettes, padded shapes, and rounded forms, from puffy outerwear and down-filled coats to plush wools and soft textures.
Leysa suggests focusing on texture, allowing volume, fabric, and form to stand out against the gentle white. The result feels modern, comforting, and quietly confident.

With 2026 trends leaning toward comfort, sustainability, and pared-back elegance, the shade slides easily into monochromatic looks or balances bolder tones, metallics, and earthy palettes.
Bagano-Dizon, who also teaches at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Fashion Design and Merchandising program, points to its flexibility across aesthetics, from minimal and romantic to streetwear and avant-garde.
