The Quezon City government on Sunday rolled out its carless program on Tomas Morato Ave., one of the busiest streets in the city, to provide a safe space for pedestrians and bikers.
A portion of Tomas Morato from Scout Rallos to Don A. Roces Ave. was closed to vehicular traffic from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Mayor Joy Belmonte backed the Sunday Car-Free, Carefree Tomas Morato Ordinance authored by Councilor Irene Belmonte, bnning cars to pass through some areas along Tomas Morato Avenue.
The car-free scheme was designed for active mobility and safety of the city’s residents.
Within one year from the approval of the implementing rules and regulations, the prohibition will be enforced on the 1st Sunday of each month from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
