QUEZON City Mayor Herbert Bautista on Sunday ordered the further redevelopment of some major areas in the city.
The goal of the redevelopment is to make Quezon City a walkable city, the mayor said.
The redevelopment shall include bicycle and pedestrian lanes and designated parking areas, and that street lights would also be installed for the safety of the commuting public, he added.
Bautista tasked the City Engineering Department and the City Architecture Department to survey the areas for redevelopment.
He also gave instructions to implement a color-coding scheme for commercial and residential areas.
The concerned department has already started the feasibility study of the mayor’s proposal.
Ronald Pamintuan, architect from the Special Design Group, they have identified several locations for improvement, such as West Avenue, Sgt. Esguerra, Kamuning, Kamias and Scout Tuazon.
According to Pamintuan, the goal is to secure the pedestrians.
“West Avenue, however, will have a different approach,” he said.
“There will be added elements for West Avenue. Food kiosks, ambulant vending stalls and stage shows would be put up to attract people,” he added.
Architect Virgilio Regala, Special Design Group head, said the improvement shall also cover the Quezon Memorial Circle and the kilometer-long street leading to Santuario de San Pedro Parish to be transformed into an Ilocos Sur’s Vigan City heritage village.
Apart from the establishments that will be affected by the redevelopment, the city government has already sent letters to telecommunications companies concerning utility poles blocking pedestrian and bike lanes.
