The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday reported a 46 percent reduction in focus crimes in Metro Manila from May 1 to 15, 2025, compared to the same period last year.
Focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft, and motorcycle theft.
Despite the increased demands of election duties, NCRPO personnel have remained steadfast in conducting police operations, checkpoint activities, and anti-criminality campaigns, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said.
These efforts led to a reduction in the total number of recorded incidents, decreasing from 287 in 2024 to just 155 this year.
All categories of the eight focus crimes, considered key indicators of public safety, saw notable decreases, Aberin said.
Rape cases dropped by 76 percent, followed by physical injuries at 50 percent, murder at 38 percent, and homicide at 43 percent. Additionally, robbery and theft decreased by 39 percent and 37 percent, respectively.
Carnapping of motor vehicles dropped by 100 percent, while motorcycle-related crimes fell by 13 percent, NCRPO said.
“Our first and fundamental duty is to prevent the occurrence of crimes, and we can only achieve this effectively and consistently if we have a police force that is seen, heard, and felt by the community,” Aberin said.
