The Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO-1) on Monday, May 12, condemned the killing of a policeman from Sta. Maria, Pangasinan, vowing that justice will be served to the slain cop and all victims involved in the incident.
Police Staff Sergeant Dennis Jali Oria, 33, assigned to the Tayug Municipal Police Station, was killed the night before polling precincts open on Election Day while responding to tension between two groups in Barangay Samon.
The commotion escalated into a shootout that resulted in the death of Oria and two unidentified men.
“I want to assure the public that the Philippine National Police is fully committed to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” said PRO 1 director Brig. Gen. Lou Evangelista.
An immediate investigation into the incident has been ordered and all those involved in the incident will be held accountable.
Evangelista also expressed his condolences to Oria’s family.
“He died serving his community. His courage and dedication will never be forgotten,” he said, adding that he would provide full support to Oria’s loved ones.
The three suspects—ages 49, 51, and 52—have been arrested.
The police recovered four firearms and a vehicle used in the crime.
